Son Of Caesar celebrates adolescent love and the first kiss on new single
»A mix of a bicycle accident and juvenile euphoria«
This is how the Danish singer and songwriter Peter Mathiasen describes his latest Son Of Caesar-single, ”Die On A Friday ”.
»The song is trying to express the feeling of being weightless and out of control, even though everything is happening in slow motion. The heart is racing and so is your mind. That’s how it feels to be a teenager in love, isn’t it?« Peter Mathiasen asks with a big smile.
In fact it took a kiss, a near-death right swing bicycle accident and a knocked over livestock pig transport to finish the song.
»One Friday afternoon riding home from work I was almost hit by a car in a
roundabout. The driver did not see me and drove off. While riding the bike home I said to myself: Hell no - I’m not going to die on a Friday«
The music for the song was written that very same Friday, but it took years to get the lyrics together.
»The lyrics were written on a sunny day in the spring while being in a very long queue on the highway, due to a crashed pig transport. The traffic radio announced that there was about 3 hours of waiting time, so I took out my phone and went into songwriting mode. The song ended up being about my first kiss and when I passed the accident site a few hours later the song was finished,« Peter remembers.
American Idols
The 30-year-old singer/somgwriter releases his sophomore album on April 13 and ”Die On A Friday ” indicates a more grandiose sound than his earlier work.
Once again Son Of Caesar collaborates with the American trumpeter and multiinstrumentalist Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes, First Aid Kit, etc.) who also contributed to the debut album ”Winter Came And Went”. But the bassist Catherine Popper (Jack White, Ryan Adams, etc) has also joined the Danish singer/songwriter in the recording process.
»I am so pleased to have both Nate Walcott and Cat Popper with me on my new album. They are two musicians whom I have admired for many years – and it has been such a great pleasure to work with them. Their technique and musicality are beyond compare and there is an obvious reason why all the big shots are calling these guys when they are in the studio or going on tour,« says Peter Mathiasen.
lyrics
Die On a Friday
written by Peter Nørgaard Mathiasen (Son Of Caesar)
Do you remember when love was a dream from above
That could keep you awake
And how you'd suddenly shake
When you looked in her eyes she's smiling at you
And she's beautiful?
It's Friday you're in love with the blue sky above
And no one could bring you down
Now as she is around
And I could stay with you
Forever in your arms
If you want me to
And I could die on a Friday
Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday with you
When luck was sending you my way
I fell in love on a Saturday - it's true
Sunday you realize
She said, “Kiss me and close your eyes”
You don’t have to tell me twice - it’s you
Do you remember the nights under disco lights?
And the songs we’ll be singing
For the rest of our lives?
And how we kissed in the dark
With nothing to lose but
A beating heart?
You know it's Friday you're in love with the blue sky above
And no one could bring you down
Now as she is around
And I could stay with you
Forever in your arms
If you want me to?
And I could die on a Friday
Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday with you
When luck was sending you my way
I fell in love on a Saturday - it's true
Sunday you realize
She said, “Kiss me and close your eyes”
You don’t have to tell me twice - it’s you
Are we who we were before?
If we could just go back once more
And stay up late and sleeping naked on the floor
It changed your life before

I was born on a mountain with the emperor looking my way. I was raised in a fountain. In the water I'd swim all day. And I wasn't longing for the riverside. I was waiting for the city lights to come on.
