»[Sally Johnson] sounds like it was written next door to where Lennon & McCartney were sitting and writing their very first songs. A pop song as good as they get." -

The song, however, was not written in the 1960’s.
»I have had the melody circling round my head for several years – and the only thing I needed to complete the song was the lyrics. So when I had written the first verse I played it to a friend of mine, who is also a songwriter. I played him the verse and asked: ”What should happen to Sally in the second verse? Will she return back home? Or should I kill her off?”« Son Of Caesar recalls.
»Usually my songs are NOT murder stories – but I had just re-watched Twin Peaks at the time – and my thoughts kept circling around Laura Palmer –there was nothing I could do about it. I was helpless« Son Of Caesar says while he smiles.
But the song is not just a tragic runaway story about a defiant and misfit teenager. It is also about small town gossip and how rumours start.
»In almost every village people talk and share stories, true and untrue and the rumour-mill flourish. Especially in times of accidents and other terrible things going on. But it does not only happen in the villages, also on social media, at work, or even in our homes stories are being shared,« Peter Mathiasen says and continue
»I try to show that there is always two sides to a story. In the first verse Sally tells us that she wants to escape and run away. In the 2nd verse “someone” claims she has been found again. And in these times of “fake news” and alternative facts I believe it is really important that we try to share the truth – rather than the gossip,« Peter concludes.
